Kirsten Hunter studied music (BMus Hons) at the University of Edinburgh and continued her studies there gaining an MSc in Music in the Community in 2007. Alongside her masters she undertook a development year with Drake Music Scotland and went on to work with them as an Associate Musician. Since graduating Kirsten has worked for a number of organisations including leading projects for the Sonic Arts Network, Intern at the Scottish Ensemble and Administrator for Hebrides Ensemble.
In 2008, Kirsten was appointed as the SCO Connect Officer in the education and outreach department of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. As part of this role she was responsible for a portfolio of projects which have included a 6 month opera project in HMP Shotts, a new commission for the orchestra based on work with a seaside community in the Scottish Borders and preparing a 260 strong children’s chorus for an SCO Season concert. During her time at the SCO Kirsten was key to the digital work of the orchestra including developing a new website, social media, filming and photography.
In December 2013, Kirsten became the Artistic Planning Manager at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as part of the team developing and producing over 350 events a year.
Kirsten also teaches piano and was a Board Director for the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra (2007-2012) and was their Administrator in 2010. She is also a keen amateur photographer and film-maker with experience as a second shooter at weddings, photographs published in national papers and making promo films for musicians.
